The festive season saw Kenya Railways re-introduce commercial passenger services on the 117.2 km service between Nairobi and Nanyuki.
The service entails one roundtrip every week with the train departing the Nairobi Central Railway station every Friday at 9:00 am and making the return trip every Sunday with the train departing Nanyuki station at 9:00 am.
The train will make stops at Madaraka, Dandora, Mwiki, Githurai, Kahawa, Ruiru, Thika, Mitubiri, Makuyu, Maragua, Murang’a, Sagana, Karatina, Kiganjo, Chaka and Naromoru station during the seven hour journey.
A First class ticket on the service costs Ksh. 1,000 and an Economy class ticket costs Ksh. 200 for the end-to-end journey.
The Passenger service is an addition as the Corporation has been transporting cargo between Nairobi and Nanyuki since mid last year (2020).
The service proved to be a hit with the customers during the festive season and thousands of customers flocked the railways stations with an aim of catching a ride on the trains; which is a new phenomenon for the young people in the areas traversed by the line.
